Rats have glands on the bottom of their feet, so they leave a wet scent trail
where ever they walk

Rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice and other small rodents are
fun pets to keep. As long as they are kept healthy, provided with a warm
home, given plenty of attention and a good diet they are fairly easy to keep
happy.
Some small animals, such as guinea pigs, are particularly suitable for a young
child's first pet allowing them to share the responsibility with you for the pet's
upkeep.
These basic steps should be followed when keeping a small animal.
1. Feed a good balanced diet.
2. Provide a safe and warm home with plenty of fresh bedding, away from
predators.
3. Treat fleas and mites quickly and effectively, especially during
summer.
4. Groom longer haired animals as appropriate.
5. Practise good hygiene for your pet and its home and bedding -
clean the cage and replace the
bedding at least once a week!
6. Veterinary check-ups and vaccinations as appropriate.
7. Always wash your hands after handling your pet. |
